Introducing Our New Percussion Teacher - Rob Brandon
Rob has been playing music since the age of six. He began playing piano and then switched to drum kit when he was twelve years old. While growing up, he took drum lessons from talented Berklee graduate Lou Lacava and graduated with a degree in percussion performance and recording arts from the University of Colorado Denver in 2016. While at CU Denver, Rob studied for five years with his teacher Thomas VanSchoick. Vanschoick who studied for many years under world renown percussionist Michael Spiro has given Rob an extremely dense pallet of Afro-Cuban percussion skills to work with. This includes extensive knowledge on congas, timbales, bongo, bata, shekere, and more. Along with his work with Vanschoick, Rob has done additional drum set studies with Pete Ellingson and Todd Reid at The University of Colorado Denver.
Throughout his career, Rob has worked with or attended clinics hosted by: Michael Spiro, Ruben Alvarez, Jose Espino, Todd Reid, Pete Ellingson, and Allison Miller. He also does session work in Denver, CO, recording and sitting in with various bands around town on either percussion or drum set. He has played alongside artists such as Todd Rundgren, Members of Matchbox 20, MC Lars, Mega Ran, Jose Espino, Members of the Flobots, Peter Stoltzman, Megan Burtt, Pete Ellingson, Doug Krause, Owen Kortz, and more! Lastly, Rob is the leader and founder of the up and coming electronic percussion duo, MAG.

The next sign that your child is ready for lessons is usually through verbal expression. The child may tell you outright that they want to start playing an instrument or taking voice lessons. Once the physical and verbal interest is there, it’s up to you as a parent to get the ball rolling. Our school is unique in that it offers month-to-month payment options for families. We don’t require long-term contracts or commitments like other music academies or sports programs.
When searching for a school, choose one with a month-to-month or short-term payment plan. If your child enjoys their lessons, they can continue. If they’re not, you can submit a withdrawal form. Don’t go to a school that requires you to sign long term contracts. You should be wary of schools that require a substantial pre-payment before you begin lessons. The schools with the best teachers are flexible and have month-to-month plans that do not require stiff contracts. Good schools also have the option for electronic payments. Find a school with a month-to-month auto-pay service.
